Ofgem

The Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem) is the independent regulator of the UK's gas and electricity industries. It promotes choice and value for energy consumers.

The need

Ofgem was experiencing problems with its managed firewall services provider. Although the infrastructure had been implemented well, there were on-going issues with service quality and capability. In-house support was ruled out due to other pressing projects. Ofgem put the project out to tender, emphasising the need for:

• flexibility regarding the use of the existing architecture
• high service levels
• well-organised implementation
• quality migration methodology
• the ability to implement within a new hosting environment with minimal impact on day-to-day services

ACSN won a three-way pitch for the project. Our infrastructure was based on Check Point Software Technologies firewalls with resilience as a major design feature. We implemented our co-managed firewall service which melded ACSN expertise with overall Ofgem control. We are one of a select number of Check Point Software Technologies Certified Support Partners (CCSP) offering direct client support.

The results

Our managed security services introduced new features and assistance - providing the improved service levels, quality, flexibility and cost-effectiveness Ofgem sought. We delivered a creative architectural design featuring the most up-to-date tools available. Smooth migration ensured minimal impact on the day-to-day business. While the service allowed the client to retain overall ownership, it included regular reviews and support from our experienced team.
